Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How Much Does Snow Intel Cost?

A. Snow Intel comes with a 7 Day Free Trial, after which it costs $5/month or $15/year.

Q. Does Snow Intel Forecast for My Area?

A. Currently, we forecast for mountain ranges across Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. Please find our current coverage map here.

Q. Why does Snow InteL Have A limited Coverage Area?

A. It takes a lot of processing power to run our snow models. That’s why we try and choose wisely where to cover. Paying for Snow Intel helps us to finance covering new areas!

Q. How Does Snow intel Choose where to Forecast?

A. We strive to allow you to explore the backcountry. This means forecasting for remote areas, as well as popular areas. For example, in Colorado, we strive to cover every hut system. If you ever find areas where we do not forecast but you’d like Snow Intel, we have built a “Give Feedback” feature where you can mark the area where you’d like coverage.

Q. What is The “Give Feedback, Get Skis” Lottery?

A. Snow Intel is a young product and we want it to rapidly mature. Within Snow Intel, you always can use the menu to “Give Feedback” on the product. On March 1st, 2021 we will raffle off a brand new pair of skis to someone who has submitted feedback on Snow Intel. The details are provided here.

Q. How Is the Snow PRofile Created?

A. Snow Intel’s Snow Profile is created by processing weather data to model the evolving snowpack. Alpine3D is used in accordance with its LPGL license terms to do this difficult job. Alpine3D is a fantastic software produced by the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research. Alpine3D allows us to model how mountain topography impacts the weather, how snow is distributed on mountain slopes, and how snow ages once on the ground. We can’t thank the SLF enough for their help and for creating a piece of software that pushes our understanding of the mountains forward.

Q. Will You Ever Share Or Use My Data?

A. No. Nobody should know where you ski unless you tell them personally. We will never use or share locations that you enter into Snow Intel. We will send you 3 emails during your free trial, unless you opt out.
